What Will We Teach?
We’re going to begin by describing some of the things young children are usually able to do at different ages – that is, Expected Development. If your child is already doing most of these things you may not need to use any special teaching. But you may still find some of the material to be helpful.

If your child is not doing some of the things that most children of the same age are doing, then the ideas in this program may help her to learn faster. We are going to show you how to use everyday activities such as meals and snacks, bathing, and dressing to teach your child. We will also talk about how to set up more structured lessons that we will call Learning Sessions. We’ll also give you some ideas about what things you should teach first.
We’ll focus on teaching your child to pay attention to you, to look at you, to communicate by pointing or by using pictures. We will also focus on teaching children to cooperate when you ask them to do things. We will also show you how to teach your child to imitate the things you do, to understand and use simple language, and to learn some basic matching and sorting. We will give you some ideas about how you can prevent and handle interfering behaviors. We will also give you suggestions about toilet training and very picky eating.
